Q & A with Mary Jane Copps

Tell me a little about The Phone Book:

I’m passionate about excellent communication in all areas of life, but the phone specifically because it’s had a starring role throughout my career. As a receptionist during my university years, as a real estate journalist and then later as the founder and CEO of a national marketing company, the skill of communicating well on the phone was an integral part of my success. I strongly believe in the importance of effective phone communication and today, as The Phone Lady, I have the privilege of helping others learn the necessary skills. This book will not only be valuable to my clients, but allow me to share the skill set with a much wider audience.

Where do you like to write?

I move around a lot when I write. I often get a bit agitated during the task, especially when the right words are not showing up. So I’ll move from my office to a chair in the living room, etc. And I write in coffee shops, hotel rooms, all kinds of places. But my favorite spot is in Rogersville, New Brunswick, at a Trappistine Abbey. I try to get there as often as possible and focus on words.
