Boularderie Island Press (BIP) is located in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia.
BIP is primarily a hybrid publisher.
Hybrid publishing offers a collaborative relationship between author and publisher with high production standards. In our author-subsidized business model the author pays the cost of editing, design, and printing and in exchange receives a higher-than-industry standard share of book sales. BIP ensures that your book adheres to industry benchmarks and is competitive in the marketplace. From debut writers to seasoned authors, the hybrid model accommodates diverse needs, making it a versatile option within the publishing sector.
BIP is not a vanity press. If upon reviewing a sample of your manuscript we believe that it lacks merit, we will not ask to read the entire manuscript. If we do make a request to read the manuscript in its entirety and feel that its readiness for publication is weak, we will not entertain publication. Instead, we will encourage you to seek out a manuscript evaluation from a reputable organization like The Writers’ Union of Canada or a provincial organization like the Writers’ Federation of Nova Scotia.
Working with a reputable hybrid publisher like BIP lends credibility to your book. BIP’s roster of authors have won awards including The Stephen Leacock Memorial Medal for Humour and the Alistair MacLeod Prize for Short Fiction. Satisfaction among our authors is high with over a dozen publishing a second, third or fourth book with BIP. Over 40% of our titles have enjoyed anywhere from 2-5 reprints.
BIP handles all the technicalities leaving you free to focus on your craft while benefiting from our expertise and well-regarded reputation. Including: professional editing, layout and design, fulfillment of orders from customers, a designated presence on our website, the ability for customers to buy your title directly from your website, our webstore, Atlantic Books Today and Amazon, placement at local bookstores and seasonal retailers, social media campaigns, and targeted promotional campaigns.
